He returned to the territory several times before moving his family to Anchorage in 1946. He pursued a 30-year career in electrical construction, first as a journey electrician for City Electric and Fixture Co. of Seattle. When he arrived in Anchorage, he went to work for City Electric of Anchorage as a general foreman and superintendent. He retired in September 1973. Among the projects he worked on were the White Alice project, which established the communication line for the Dew Line; the Nike-Hercules sites in Anchorage; the Anchorage Westward Hotel; the Fourth Avenue Theater; the Unocal Building and numerous civilian and military contracts throughout the state. He capped his distinguished career by managing the electrical contracting on the underground nuclear test by the Atomic Energy Commission on Amchitka Island in 1970, which he witnessed from the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Princeton. Mr. Rokeberg was a member of the Anchorage Masonic Lodge No. 17, FA&M; a 32-degree member of the Scottish Rite Masons; the Al Aska Shrine Temple; Pioneers of Alaska, Igloo No. 15; a 60-year member of the Loyal Order of Moose. He was the first member of the Anchorage Lodge to receive the Pilgrim Degree of Merit in 1962. Mr. Rokeberg was honored as "Alaskan of the Year" in 1990. He was also a member of the IBEW Local 1547 Retiree Club and the Sourdough Sam Chapter of the Good Sam Club. He and his wife enjoyed traveling throughout North America in their motorhome during his 18-year retirement. They maintained a winter home at the Countryside Trailer Park in Apache Junction, Ariz., for the past decade. His family made this statement: "He had a reputation for hard work, integrity, modesty and quietly assisted many pioneer Alaskans in their time of need." Mr. Rokeberg was preceded in death by his sons, Donald and Kenneth. He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Ruby of Anchorage; his son, Norman of Anchorage; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren; and family members in Norway including his sister, Agnes Besseberg and his brothers, Hillmer and Oddmund; 10 nieces and nephews, all of Norway. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions to Shriners Crippled Children Hospital, or to the charity of the donor's choice.''}}

{{Sitat|''Pioneer Alaskan Ruby Rokeberg, 87, died June 14, 1998, at the Anchorage Pioneers' Home. A service was held at Evergreen Memorial Chapel, downtown, and was conducted by Women of Moose and Pioneers of Alaska. Burial was at Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery. Mrs. Rokeberg was born April 24, 1911, in Kirkland, Wash. The death of her father forced her family to return to Denmark, where Mrs. Rokeberg worked as a teenager. The highlight of that time was a formal reception in Copenhagan, where ''Miss Ruby from the USA'' demonstrated the latest American dance craze, the Charleston. Upon returning to the Seattle area, she married her husband, Melvin. After arriving in Anchorage in 1946, Mrs. Rokeberg worked at the downtown shop of City Electric. During the '50s and '60s, she owned the Danish Kitchen, specializing in fancy European pastries and wedding cakes. She created the dessert tray at the Garden of Eatin', Anchorage's premier restaurant of the time, and made more than 600 cookies a day for Pacific Northern Airlines' flight kitchen. The rejects made her popular with neighborhood kids. Her family said: ''She was a good-natured person with a heart of gold, always the first to pitch in where her kitchen skills were needed at the lodge, RV camps or gathering of family and friends.'' She and her husband retired in 1975 and spent time in Arizona and criss-crossed the continent in their motorhome. Mrs. Rokeberg was active in the growth of the Anchorage Moose Lodge, joining in 1951. She was its Senior Regent in 1956-57 and was the first member to earn the College of Regents Degree in the Anchorage Chapter of Women of the Moose. She was also active in Pioneers of Alaska Auxiliary No. 4, Alaska Association for Family and Community Education, Sourdough Chapter of the Good Sam's Club and numerous arts and crafts groups. Mrs. Rokeberg was preceded in death by her sons, Donald and Kenneth, and husband of 61 years, Melvin. She is survived by her son, Alaska Rep.
